bonsai moringa
Some people just don't have the space to cultivate a large tree of full-blooded Moringa, so... we'll show you how to grow one, and keep it "danger-sized." It's not that hard to do, but you'll have to keep up to date, until the Moringa tree realizes it's not going to be 30 or 40 feet tall. They really seem to want to grow in a huge tree, but with a little care, you can persuade them to believe that "good things come in small packages." The Moringa Stenopetala dwarfs shown on the right, were about 2 years old, when we took this picture. They survived a very cold climate, for our area anyway, and are thriving in their 16-inch pot. The pot helps "enanos". If we planted them on the ground, they'd probably be more than 20 feet tall, for now. We'll return frequently, so they don't get "out of hand." These are the African variety of Moringa, . They produce many large and green leaves to eat, but you will not have flowers or pods of them for a few years. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ To grow a DWARF MORINGA TREE ~ ~ ~~Moringa Subjects How do you make a joke? The first thing you need to do is plant Moringa seeds and grow them in seedlings. Any variety of Moringa will work; we are presenting the African Moringa tree, Moringa Stenopetala. Plan your seeds in loose pottery soils, preferably organic pottery soils, as you will want to eat the leaves, the buds, the flowers and the young capsules. Keep the ground loose, as you will find that Moringas does not like highly compacted floors or clay-like soils. If that is all that is available to you in your area, get some sand, and mix it on your floor. You can also use perlite, which you like - but - do not use the vermiculite. Moringas will simply detest him. We don't know why... Things you'll needPlanning container, 12 inches to 18 inches wideMoringa seeds of any variety Soft caterpillar soil Heat Sunlight waterPruning shears PatiencePLANING THE SEEDSFill the pot that you plan to use, for your enanaf Moringas, with flotle soil as referenced above. You can grow around 5 dwarf moringa trees, in a recommended size pot. We usually sow about 7 or 8 seeds, because some of them may not bud. The goal is to end with dwarf Moringas from 3 to 5, per pot. Make holes in the ground, well separated, and about 3/4 to 1 inch deep. Put a seed in every hole, and cover slightly with the ground. Regar the ground thoroughly, and put in a sunny location - preferably, but not necessarily, out. Within 10 days, you should have Moringa seeds shoots. * If you are planting seeds of Moringa Oleifera, don't despair if they don't bud at that time. Our consistent experience with them is that they are "sprouters of fickles"! What to do after they've been approved The photo on the right is from the little Moringa Stenopetala shoots. You see, they still have their seeds glued to their stems. That's called a . In the end they will fall, after they wilt. The Moringa Oleiferas will not have the following: they rise with only their leaves showing. Wait until Moringa's seedlings have at least two levels of branches, and then you should start pinching their lids. New leaves spring up on the tops of Moringas and in the union or "crotch" of the branches. Even though Moringas grow fast, you'll have to be patient while training them to stay small. Because they just love to grow, and are one of the fastest growing tropical trees, you need to check them for new leaves at least once a week. When they are about 18 inches tall, we cut the length of the branches, to approximately 1/2 of their size. This forces a new growth along the trunks, as seen in the photo on the right. When they are still young, the trunks will be green. As their seedlings of Moringa mature, if you follow the instructions in the preceding two paragraphs, you will notice that the trunks begin to be "pesadosos" in texture, and brown. Now, you have a little tree. Your Moringas may remain in their pots, and remain small, if you continue to pinch higher growth, and cut the length of the branches in half. To ensure that they get the right nutrients, a light application of an organic fertilizer can be applied once a month. We rarely fertilize ours, and prosper. If the leaves begin to "yellow", it means they need a little magnesium, which may be in the form of Epsom salts, or can use oyster shell powder, or egg shells, or dolomite. Sprinkle some around the base of their Moringas, and water in. Please remember - Moringas do not like their roots standing on sober soils. The roots rot, so make sure that where you plant your Moringas, you provide them with a good drainage. Make sure that the bottom of the pots has holes in them, to allow excessive water to drain. Pebbles at the bottom of pottery containers is effective, or spaghetti mozuelo, or a layer of broken clay pots or chrome. FOLLOW US ON SIMPLE DIRECTIONS, AND YOU HAVE A MORINGA TREE OF DWARFWe've had some Moringa Stenopetalas in their original pots for four years. They are abundant and productive. This method works wonderfully with that variety. With the long pods growing from Moringa Oleifera trees, and other varieties, it is much more a challenge!
